As you recall, Motorsport Games acquired the IndyCar license with the intention of creating a simulator focused on this racing category. Given the ongoing situation regarding the massive acquisition of licenses by Motorsport Games and their utilization, iRacing took advantage of this moment to bring back IndyCar to its simulator.
iRacing has confirmed the return of IndyCar through a news article on their website.
This new agreement includes rights for the INDYCAR SERIES and the return of the iRacing Indy 500.
IndyCar returns to iRacing
More than twelve years ago, there was a relationship between this category and the simulator originating from Massachusetts, which they decided to break due to certain circumstances. This return will also include the Indianapolis Motor Speedway circuit, in addition to the aforementioned Indy 500.
The return of this license has been highly anticipated by both iRacing members and fans of the INDYCAR SERIES.
"The INDYCAR SERIES and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway are automotive properties that should be included in iRacing."
Said iRacing President, Tony Gardner.
"There's no better way for fans to experience racing simulations than on iRacing, whether it's the INDYCAR SERIES' Indy 500, NASCAR's Brickyard 400, or IMSA's Battle at the Bricks, there's nothing like racing at Indianapolis. I'm thrilled to bring these events back to the iRacing community."
In addition to the rebranding of INDYCAR SERIES events in iRacing, members will have access to series content for private leagues and events.
"We're thrilled for our most dedicated players and fans to have full access to the INDYCAR SERIES through this licensing agreement with iRacing," said Ben Hendricks, Senior Manager of Esports and Emerging Virtual Experiences at INDYCAR. "They're long-standing partners, and we look forward to official INDYCAR SERIES racing on iRacing for many years to come."
The new licensing agreement between iRacing and INDYCAR includes more provisions than previous iterations, allowing for greater flexibility in hosting events and series. Among the highlights are:
- Return of the iRacing Indianapolis 500
- INDYCAR SERIES branding in iRacing series. Multiple leagues to host INDYCAR SERIES events in iRacing.
- Extension of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway license
The licensing agreement is effective immediately, and iRacing members will see the rebranding of series, cars, and events in the coming days. Details about the iRacing Indy 500 will be available by the end of this month.
