Road to Clase A #1

The part of you that is more investigative, you will have discovered that we have a YouTube channel where, although not much content is uploaded, it is there, linked. Well, from today on, and thanks to the idea of our editor Adrián, it will have a little more utility.

A new series begins, which is really just another excuse to spend time with virtual cars, more specifically with iRacing. Road To Clase A is a series that, as the name suggests, aims to achieve the Class A license in the simulator, striving to improve as a driver and having good, healthy battles on the track. Each article you read on the website will have the chronicles of each race of the episodes, so let's go for the first one.

Race 1: MX-5 Cup at Snetterton

Signing up for this first event after barely touching the iRacing service, with a circuit I don't know and hardware completely different from what I had before, only has one result and I don't see where the positive can be. Snetterton, in this case, is a circuit that although I like, I have never raced on it, so the first contact with it with 10 minutes left before the race is practice, where I spend 6 minutes configuring the steering wheel, but that's not a problem.

Qualifying

We qualified in the midfield, with few cars on the track and some that haven't set a time, but the Strength of Field (SoF) in this case is close to ours. With enough familiarization, we could, at least, reach the podium.

Race

With calmness and caution, great things are achieved. We maintain (or at least try to) a steady pace and, taking advantage of some opportunities that life presents us, we position ourselves in a very high area of the grid and, without being too aggressive, we try to stay there for a good while. The race and my driving surprise due to the lack of practice both on the circuit and with the car, leaving us in a small battle towards the end of the race.

Race 2: FIA F4 at Virginia International

A completely different car and track rule the second race of this episode. A single-seater prone to locking tires on every brake and a circuit with slopes, blind corners, and other fast linked curves. At first glance, an interesting combination.

Qualifying

With only one valid lap and, again, without practicing too much, we set a 1:50 which will place us in the middle of the grid. If in the previous race we had to maintain our calm, in this one we should already be at a standstill on the first lap.

Race

Bumps, spins, flying cars, more bumps, unnecessary side-by-sides. Everything you can imagine. Surprisingly, a very good race for this combination that ends up pleasing me quite a bit, although we have an incident that triggers a mental debate, let's see if we can solve it together.

With a positive SR and, personally, a triumph, this first episode of RTCA ends. Hope you like it!
